Study, draw and describe the slides

N° 154 — arachnoidendothelioma (stained with hematoxylin and eosin). Pay attention to elongated cells, organized in concentric structures. Name histogenesis, maturity degree of cellular components of the tumour. Give the names of specific corpuscles, which are characteristic for the tumour. Name the malignant variant.

N° 170—melanoma of the skin (stained with hematoxylin and eosin). Pay attention to the domination of parenchyma over stroma; cell poly-morphism, presence of granules of black-brown pigment in the cytoplasm. Name the formation which preceded the formation of melanoma.

N° 176 — neurofibroma (stained with picrofuxine according to Van-Gieson). Pay attention to the shape of the

cells, arrangement of conglomerates of the tumour cells which are organised into typical structures. The most frequent tumour localisation.

N° 177 — glioblastoma (stained with hematoxylin and eosin). At low magnification find the tumour in the cerebral tissue. At high one investigate the tumour composition: pay attention to the cellular polymorphism, the size and quantity of the nuclei, numerous vessels in the tumour, the presence of secondary changes. The histogenetic type of the tumour, maturity of the cells, growth speed, frequency of intracranial metastases.

Test

1. Name the types of nevi: a)...,b)..., c)..., d)..., e)... .

2. What is formed at melanoma decomposition? a)..., b)....

3. Enumerate neuroectodermal tumours: a)..., b)..., c)..., d)...,e)...,f)....

4. Name histological variants of astrocytoma: a)..., b)..., c)....

5. What are the variants of mature and immature meningovascular tumours: a)..., b)... .

6. Conception of Recklinghausen's disease.

7. The patient was admitted to the hospital complaining of weakness, loss of weight, multiple tumour-like nodes in the subcutaneous fat. One month prior to admission he had injured a pigment spot (nevus) in the interscapular area of the back. Some nodes are brown. The liver is enlarged, its surface is trabecular. The patient died in cachexia. The autopsy demonstrated black-brown nodes not only in subcutaneous fat but also in the liver, lungs, lymphatic glands. Name the tumour. What is the colour of the tumour due to?

Answers: 1. a) terminal, b) intracutaneous, c) composed,

d) epithelioid, e) blue. 2. a) melanin, b) promelanin. 3. a) astrocyte, b) oligodendroglial, c) ependymal, d) tumours of chorioid epithelium,

e) neuronal tumours, f) low-differentiated and embryonic tumours. 4. a) fibrilla, b) protoplasmatic, c) fibrillar-protoplasmatic. 5. a) menin-geoma, b) meningeal sarcoma. 6. Systemic disease characterised by multiple neurofibroma. 7. Melanoma. The colour is caused by presence of the pigment (melanin).
