Mineral resources of the USA
Country's demand for mineral resources such as gas, oil, iron ore and uranium, vanadium ore, copper, titanium, lead, molybdenum, zinc, beryllium, tungsten, silver, gold, phosphates, potash, fluorite, boron ore, barite, sulfur is completely covered with mineral reserves.
The U.S. takes the first place on reserves of coal. Major coal basins are located in the central, western and eastern parts of the country.
The country has large reserves of uranium ores which are concentrated in the western regions.
The U.S. has rich oil and gas reserves and takes the eighth place in the world. The main deposits are in Texas, Alaska and California.
The accumulation of shale is observed in the Appalachian Basin region of mountains and the Green River.
Iron ore can fully meet the needs of the country. Large deposits are found in the north of the United States in the area of Lake Superior, near the border with Canada.
U.S. has rich reserves of titanium ores. The most significant field is located in New Jersey.
After Canada the U.S. has the second largest reserves of tungsten ore. In the Western states of the country there are more than fifty tungsten deposits.
The U.S. is rich in gold and takes the second place in the world after South Africa. Gold is mined in the south-east and west coast, as well as in Alaska. Most of the gold is extracted from the porphyry copper deposits, the largest of which is the Bingham, Utah.
The country has abundant reserves of lithium ores which are concentrated in the states of North Carolina and Nevada.
There are large reserves of copper ore, satisfying 60 % of the country. In the U.S. there are more than seventy copper deposits.
The U.S. takes the first place of reserves of molybdenum ore. Most of them are located in the Western states.
The U.S. after Australia takes the first place on reserves of lead ores. The main of them are in the western and central parts of the country. In Nevada mercury ore reserves are focused. Also large deposits are developed in California. The country has large deposits of silver ore.
After Morocco the U.S. takes the second largest reserves of phosphorite which are in South and North Carolina, Florida, and in the Rockies. The U.S. is rich in potash reserves.
In the U.S. there are numerous deposits of building materials: clay, facing stone, marble, sand, gravel. In the country there is a number of deposits of gems like tourmaline, turquoise, sapphire, jade, beryl, rose quartz. Turquoise deposits are located in the states of Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico. Large deposit of sapphire is located in Montana.
